After a doctor is called to visit a crumbling manor, strange things begin to occur.
★★★★”Based on the novel by Sarah Waters, this is a story about class, envy and self-loathing.” The Independent
★★★★ “Ruth Wilson shines in mournful ghost story. Death and decline haunt postwar Britain as Sarah Waters’ novel is brought to deliciously sinister life by Lenny Abrahamson.” The Guardian
Directed by Lenny Abrahamson and adapted from Sarah Waters’ novel by Lucinda Coxon, The Little Stranger is set in post-war 1948 England. The story follows Dr. Faraday (Domhnall Gleeson), a country doctor who returns to Hundreds Hall, a once-grand estate where his mother worked as a maid. The Ayres family—matriarch Mrs. Ayres (Charlotte Rampling), her son Roderick (Will Poulter), and daughter Caroline (Ruth Wilson)—inhabit the decaying mansion, which seems haunted by an ambiguous, sinister presence.
