for Carmen on the Lake

CARMEN ON THE LAKE : FROM LAKE CONSTANCE, BREGENZ – AUSTRIA (12A)

Performed on the spectacular water stage of Lake Constance in Bregenz (Austria), George Bizet’s Carmen is a story of passion, destiny and obsession.

★★★★★“Carmen performed on the lake-stage at Bregenz Festival was a knockout” The Telegraph Full review

★★★★★ ‘The whole production was outstanding – the special effects and staging were mind-blowing, I loved it and still haven’t worked out all the ‘how did they do that’! Tripadviser

“Then, unbelievably, she climbs above the flying cards that reach 24 metres above the lake, swinging from one to another, a mountaineering feat both daring and terrifying…. The lake itself is part of the production, the front of the stage lowering to create the impression of water rising, and the Act II dance at Lillas Pastia’s gradually becoming a wild water dance. It’s terrific fun.” The Telegraph

The French composer’s opera is most famous for its Spanish melodies, including the Flower Song, Habanera and the Toreador Song.

On 14 September, experience Carmen like never before – recorded live on the floating stage during the Bregenz Festival. As with their previous spectacular productions, you can expect the staging of this classic tale to have an extravagantly original and innovative design, with the waters of the lake being used as an extension of the stage.

This production of Carmen will be directed by Kasper Holten, Director of Opera at the Royal Opera House in London, with the set designed by the British artist Es Devlin. Her past work includes sets for such stars as Adele, Take That, U2, Pet Shop Boys and Kanye West.
