LIVE THEATRE: 42 Crowns -Shropshire Drama Company

Thu, 9th November, 2023 @ 20:00pm - 21:20pm

£5 – £40

for 42 Crowns

42 Crowns is performed by four actors and a musician and delivered through a combination of rhyming verse, songs, readings and poetry. It is a wry and quirky observation of the activities of our kings and queens during the reign of various regal houses; such as the Plantagenets, Tudors, Stuarts and Windsors; since 1066 and up to the incumbent monarch Charles III – 42 in total.

Written by Shropshire Drama Company member Michele Rowland-Jones as 41 Crowns to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee in 2021.

, it was re written as 42 Crowns and performed earlier this year to mark the coronation of King Charles. This autumn’s short tour will celebrate the King’s 75th birthday.

” A dash through all the members of the Royal Family – not in a patriot flag-waving way. At the same time it is not Royal-bashing. It has extracts of poetry, song with a professional guitarist, bits of speeches (Henry V (Shakespeare), Queen Victoria (her diaries)) all woven together to make a fun/interesting evening. I’ve taken my mother (70s) and my children (twice) and they all enjoyed it. I’d say its in the wheelhouse of Horrible Histories.”
