The Winter’s Tale- Live from Shakespeare’s Globe
Thu, 4th October, 2018 @ 19:15pm - 22:25pm
£8 – £12
★★★★ “A superb cast deliver striking performances in a production that is knowingly dissonant, from the costumes to the climax” The Guardian
“With its enchanted statues, its lurch from tragedy to an improbably happy ending and its actual bears, Shakespeare’s late play The Winter’s Tale presents a director with all manner of challenges.Fortunately, Blanche McIntyre is a director of textual sensitivity and she brings clarity, intelligence and insight to the play’s complexities and contradictions.” The Stage
The Winter’s Tale is Shakespeare’s great play of the irrational and inexplicable, illustrating how uncontrollable emotions can range across gender, country, class and age. Its universe is full of monsters, gods and natural disasters with a colossal sweep that takes audiences from the stifling atmosphere of the Sicilian court to the unbuttoned joy of a Bohemian festival. Directed by Blanche McIntyre, this new production staged at the beautiful and iconic Globe Theatre in London will be broadcast live to cinemas on Thursday 4 October 2018.
★★★★”This production may be short on logic but it’s long on charm, with a magical ending which holds it audience spellbound in its redemptive thrall.“Theatreworld
