SUMMARY:LIVE THEATRE: 42 Crowns -Shropshire Drama Company
DESCRIPTION:42 Crowns is performed by four actors and a musician and delivered through a combination of rhyming verse\, songs\, readings and poetry. It is a wry and quirky observation of the activities of our kings and queens during the reign of various regal houses; such as the Plantagenets\, Tudors\, Stuarts and Windsors; since 1066 and up to the incumbent monarch Charles III – 42 in total. \nWritten by Shropshire Drama Company member Michele Rowland-Jones as 41 Crowns to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee in 2021. \n\, it was re written as 42 Crowns and performed earlier this year to mark the coronation of King Charles. This autumn’s short tour will celebrate the King’s 75th birthday. \n” A dash through all the members of the Royal Family – not in a patriot flag-waving way. At the same time it is not Royal-bashing. It has extracts of poetry\, song with a professional guitarist\, bits of speeches (Henry V (Shakespeare)\, Queen Victoria (her diaries)) all woven together to make a fun/interesting evening. I’ve taken my mother (70s) and my children (twice) and they all enjoyed it. I’d say its in the wheelhouse of Horrible Histories.”

SUMMARY:Live Mid Wales Opera : Beatrice and Benedict (Berlioz)
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to be hosting the Opening night of Mid Wales Opera’s  production of  Berlioz – Beatrice and Benedict (based on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing) \nBeatrice and Benedict are both determined to stay single. Beatrice is a woman who despises men (especially Benedict) and Benedict can’t abide women (particularly Beatrice). That is until their friends plot to bring them together and they both ‘accidentally’ overhear whispers of each other’s unrequited passion; the spark of love is ignited by gossip and quickly becomes a blazing wildfire. \nBerlioz’s final opera sets to music the wild and illogical whirlwind of falling in love\, bringing a rich warmth of invention to Shakespeare that virtually no other composer has achieved. Indeed\, Berlioz’s life-long passion for Shakespeare is evident throughout his miraculous score\, radiant with love and sparkling with energy\, and including the famous central nocturne duet\, perhaps the most beautiful thing Berlioz ever wrote. \nSung and spoken in English \nBerlioz – Beatrice and Benedict (yn seiliedig ar Much Ado About Nothing Shakespeare) \nCenir yn Saesneg \nMae Beatrice a Benedict ill dau yn benderfynol o aros yn sengl. Mae Beatrice yn fenyw sy’n casáu dynion (yn enwedig Benedict) ac ni all Benedict oddef merched (yn enwedig Beatrice). Hynny yw\, nes bod eu ffrindiau’n cynllwynio i ddod â nhw at ei gilydd a’r ddau\, yn ‘ddamweiniol’\, yn gorglywed sibrydion am angerdd y naill at y llall; mae gwreichion cariad yn cael eu tanio gan glecs ac yn datblygu’n gyflym yn dân gwyllt tanbaid. \nMae angerdd oes Berlioz dros Shakespeare yn amlwg drwy gydol ei sgôr wyrthiol\, yn pelydru gyda chariad ac yn pefrio ag egni\, ac yn cynnwys y ddeuawd nosol\, ganolog enwog\, y darn harddaf a ysgrifennodd Berlioz erioed efallai.

SUMMARY:BLAST STORY TELLING: Kestrel Morton presents The Mountain of the Sun
DESCRIPTION:Kestrel Morton presents The Mountain of the Sun \nBLAST! at the Under Ground – Bishops Castle ( side Gate Public Hall) \nTuesday 8th November 2022 6.30pm \nAn Amazing Young Storyteller! \nA three-faced god and a golden feather\, a whispering serpent and a monk’s pilgrimage\, a sheep stealer\, a hooligan and a change of heart\, all watched over by old Granny Chaos. Kestrel Morton weaves a stitch-tongued spell of language\, enchanting all who hear it to follow its fantastical thread; into creation myths and wonder tales; through parables and into true stories\, dancing on the sharp knife edge between warnings and wonder in the wild world beyond the world. \n“Kestrel is a dynamic and passionate performer with a unique vision. A must-see!” -Daniel Morden \nLike a magpie’s nest full of shiny trinkets this story is expertly and subtly woven from a wide blend of sources; from traditional folk tales to anecdotes heard at parties; from daydreams in old ruins to visions in a dancer’s steps; this patchwork of narratives is sewn together with a needle of language so fine that the finished fabric appears whole and completely stitch-less. \n“For each action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” \n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:LIVE THEATRE: JABS
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nIf ever a play was guaranteed to connect with every single member of your audience right now … its JABS. \nWe’ve all been on the receiving end. But what is life like at the other end of the syringe? \nWhen work fell off a cliff for the singer and comedienne Sally Tonge in March 2020\, she took the unlikely step of retraining as an NHS vaccinator. She quickly realised that her Covid-19 vaccination pod was the smallest theatre in the world … and that the procession of people stepping into it were pure comedy gold. \nJABS is played largely for affectionate laughs … with a few gentle moments of poignancy\, a smattering of new songs and a touch of audience participation (because we all know what we have to do!) \nIt’s also a love letter to the NHS. \nSally plays herself … whilst actors Christina Cubbin and Paul Wilkinson portray an assortment of 16 characters who appear in her pod for a few minutes each. \nThe play is scripted and directed by Chris Eldon Lee (BBC Radio Four producer and founder member of the veteran comedy group ‘Three Men In A Bowtie’). \nTHE CREATIVE TEAM \nSally Tonge is a storyteller\, musician and community artist. She has been working in educational\, health and community settings for over 20 years. Past stage plays include Silhouette\, Shakespeare’s Will (which toured to Elsinore Castle in Denmark)\, Ursula\, Queen of the Jungle (in Edinburgh and India) Atlantic Ladies and Shrewsbury’s Finest Hour. She sings\, plays guitar and tells jokes in Three Men In A Bowtie and musical duo Daylevel … and is a regular artist for Music in Hospitals. \nComedy actor Christina Cubbin made her stage debut aged 9 playing Morgan le Fay in her Junior School’s critically acclaimed production of King Arthur. More recent work includes The Railway Children\, Dear Agnes\, A Bloody Field By Shrewsbury\, Tales of Old Bomere\, Atlantic Ladies\, Shrewsbury’s Finest Hour and far too many pantomimes. \nActor musician Paul Wilkinson trained at Bretton Hall\, gaining a degree in Dramatic Arts. He has worked in theatre\, television and film. His last theatre tour was outdoor Shakespeare on the south coast and prior to that he toured Germany for a year\, worked on soaps\, and did a few adverts … the worst being the one for Pringles (you think you like something until you have to eat it endlessly for two days!) \nWriter and director Chris Eldon Lee has performed 500 comedy gigs with Three Men in a Bowtie and produced at least 250 programmes for BBC Radio 4. This is his 14th play. \nMovement coach Maggie Love famously choreographed Grease in The West End. Her film credits include Fame and Heaven’s Gate. In 2012 she produced a pageant for The Queen\, who liked it!
