A once in a lifetime opportunity to experience this major new collaborative commission bringing the very best of world-class contemporary music and visual arts to three intimate Shropshire venues.

Using old maps of Shropshire and Cornelius Cardew’s exquisite Treatise as common starting points, composer Howard Skempton and textile artist Matthew Harris have created brand new works for this performance. Harris’ freestanding artwork will transform the space into both a concert hall and a gallery as four of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s world-class musicians perform Skempton’s new piece, Field Notes.

The performers are

– Melinda Maxwell: Principal oboe of the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and the Endymion Ensemble. Also principal with the London Sinfonietta, the Hilliard Ensemble and for film sessions with the London Metropolitan Orchestra.

– Alexandra Wood: Leader of City of London Sinfonia and regular leader of BCMG. She plays a violin made by Nicolo Gagliano in 1767.

– Fiona Winning: Principal violist of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Other chamber music highlights include performances with Ensemble 360, Chroma, BCMG, London Sinfonietta and Ensemble Amorpha.

– Ulrich Heinen: Principal cello with Radio Orchestra Saarbrucken, leader of City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, co-founder of BCMG.
